Rack Supported Mezzanines Use Pallet Rack Structure Below the Mezzanine

Sometimes called "catwalk systems", mezzanine rack configurations are high bay pallet racking with walkways in the aisles between the rack. Other configurations include open mezzanines with floor decking that rests on the pallet rack upright columns for support. The mezzanine framing members (joists and stringers) bolt to the upright columns to create the decking of the mezzanine. With pallet rack below the floor, the frequency of support columns is higher, making the mezzanine very stable and solidly anchored.

Warehouse costs are based on square footage, so effectivly using all available space — including vertical space — can be the difference between a profitable operations and a loss. A mezzanine racking system creates more storage space in the same square footage by using the available vertical space.

Mezzanine floor racking systems easily let your company greatly increase the vertical space of the warehouse by doubling or tripling the usable surface area. Adding mezzanine work platforms can be the most cost-efficient way to increase warehouse storage space without the expense of a building expansion. Rack supported systems create a mezzanine level of usable space which can then be used for additional storage space of parts, equipment, materials, or a support conveyor. It’s the perfect money saving solution for industrial, manufacturing, and distribution warehouses that require a safe and efficient pallet racking storage system.

When designing your Mezzanine floor first item to consider is your access points, your work systems, products, and all handling methods to custom plan out your system. Steel mezzanine systems can be completely disassembled and re-used. The structure, dimensions, and location are easily modified, with virtually endless possible uses in any industrial setting.

Your mezzanine floor racking system will made of high-quality components to create additional storage spaces, maybe changing rooms, or offices, and much more in an already existing or brand new installation. Don't forget the accessories such as stairs, hand rails, vertical lifts, gates, and security cages to improve safety and facilitate product flow from one floor to another. A.I.T. carries a wide range of sizes, flooring types, and constructive systems from Cogan, Interlake Mecalux, mean your mezzanine will be built with the best quality components.

There are several systems available to suit the load, column span, and space purposing of a mezzanine floor racking system. All meet current U.S. building standards for a medium to heavy-duty design the Hot-rolled steel beam-to-brackets system, or the cold-formed steel mezzanine system with perforations for putting through cables or a sprinkler system would be your best choices. Add your railings to enclose areas as needed, the work platforms you create are a secure space for storage and picking tasks. Protective kick boards fitted around the bottom of the same area should be added to prevent objects from accidentallu falling off the mezzanine to the ground floor. By adding an an up-and-over gate or a swing railing, your mezzanine can be the perfect buffer for loading and unloading from the ground level. Sturdy, easy to install, and adapt to different heights stairs, the stairs will give quick access to mezzanine floors.

We configure freestanding structural steel mezzanines to fit any space, including over machinery, over offices or around building columns. Through the use of mezzanines, it is possible to move supervisory offices, tool cribs, spare parts rooms, inspection rooms or record archive storage off the production floor. To conserve floor-level square-footage and create an efficient process flow, you also can house production operations such as assembly, kitting and return-goods processing on a mezzanine.

Because mezzanines built are not permanent parts of the building, they often come under different sections of the building code. Mezzanines are considered capital equipment and may qualify for an accelerated tax write-off, making them an even more attractive solution.
